The Indian film industry is in mourning following the sudden passing of veteran actor Nana Patekar. The 75-year-old actor suffered a severe cardiac arrest in Goa on Thursday and could not be saved despite extensive efforts by medical staff at Manipal Hospital. According to Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department, the actor had reached out to a friend around 2:30 am expressing that he was feeling unwell, but he unfortunately passed away after medical teams attempted to revive him for 45 minutes.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the nation, with stars from the cricket fraternity leading the heartfelt messages. Virat Kohli took to X to honour the late icon, writing, “A true legend of Indian cinema. His work and legacy will live on for generations. Rest in peace, Nana Patekar ji. Om Shanti.” Former cricketer Suresh Raina also shared his condolences, reflecting on the actor’s impact: “An era ends with the passing of a true legend. Nana Patekar ji — your powerful performances, honesty and simplicity made you one of Indian cinema’s most unforgettable artists.”
Nana Patekar leaves behind a remarkable body of work that spanned decades in both Hindi and Marathi cinema. After making his debut in the 1978 film Gaman, he became a powerhouse performer in classics such as Parinda, Prahar, Angaar, Krantiveer, Tiranga, Khamoshi, and the cult hit Ab Tak Chhappan. Even in his later years, the actor remained a vibrant part of the industry. He was recently involved in several high-profile projects, including Housefull 5, a role as a police officer in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo, and a cameo appearance in the upcoming film Subedar.
