Shehzad Khan reveals why father Ajit Khan was upset with his Andaz Apna Apna performance

Decades after the release of the cult classic Andaz Apna Apna, actor Shehzad Khan is opening up about the legendary Ajit Khan’s reaction to his role as the iconic Bhalla.

Decades after the release of the cult classic Andaz Apna Apna, actor Shehzad Khan is opening up about the legendary Ajit Khan’s reaction to his role as the iconic Bhalla. While the character remains a fan favorite, Shehzad revealed that his father, known for his menacing and serious villainous screen presence, was far from impressed by the comedic tribute. After watching the film, the veteran star sternly warned his son, “Harkat dobara mat karna,” expressing his disappointment that years of building a serious image had been turned into a joke.

Shehzad’s journey into the film began after he spotted a newspaper announcement for the project featuring Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. After a chance meeting with producer Vinay Kumar Sinha and director Rajkumar Santoshi, he was offered the role of Bhalla with a specific instruction from Santoshi: to mimic his father’s iconic voice and mannerisms. Shehzad embraced the challenge, famously delivering his introduction line, “Mera naam hota hai Vinod, lekin saari duniya mujhe Bhalla ke naam se jaanti hai,” in his father’s signature style. While this performance helped define the film’s humor, it clearly clashed with his father’s professional sensibilities.

Beyond the familial friction, Shehzad also disclosed that the final cut of the movie left several hilarious moments on the editing room floor. He believes the film would have been even more legendary had those deleted scenes remained, including a sequence in a police van where his character would have delivered a final punchline about his “naye pilan.” Despite the missing footage, Andaz Apna Apna cemented its legacy as a cornerstone of Indian pop culture, with characters like Bhalla, Crime Master Gogo, and Teja becoming immortalized in the hearts of fans.
