The iconic halls of St. Theresa are getting a chilling makeover. Moving away from the high-gloss musical fairy tales of the past, the Student of the Year franchise is officially heading to the OTT space with a gritty new installment titled Student of the Year: After Dark. The makers dropped a teaser on Monday, signaling a sharp departure from the previous films by trading vibrant campus parties for a dark, mysterious thriller centered around a dead body.
Shanaya Kapoor is set to headline this digital debut, stepping into a world that promises to be raw, layered, and entirely unpredictable. Produced by Karan Johar and helmed by acclaimed director Reema Maya, the series aims to strip the franchise to its bones. Reema Maya, known for her bold storytelling, emphasized that this project is a complete reimagining of the brand, utilizing the web series format to engage with today’s youth through a thriller lens.
Speaking on the project, director Reema Maya praised the lead star, calling Shanaya a director’s actor who is both hardworking and well-prepared. She also highlighted the creative freedom provided by the series format, noting that the team had a blast experimenting with the music and working with a talented young cast. Fans eager to see this dark transformation of the popular franchise won’t have to wait long, as Student of the Year: After Dark is scheduled to stream on Jio Hotstar starting November 13.
