The Indian film fraternity is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor and Padma Shri recipient Nana Patekar. The legendary performer, known for his raw intensity and iconic screen presence, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in Goa. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals at Manipal Hospital, who attempted to revive him for 45 minutes, the actor could not be saved. His final rites are scheduled to be held at his farmhouse, Nanachi Wadi, located in Donje village near Pune.
Social media has been flooded with tributes from across the industry. Salman Khan shared a poignant note, writing, “Nanaaaaaaaaaaa. Rest in peace bhau,” while Ajay Devgn reflected on the actor’s unique ability to evoke complex emotions, noting that his absence will be deeply felt. Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kajol also paid their respects, with Kajol describing him as a “true original.” Fellow actors Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher shared heartfelt memories of his honesty and warmth, expressing the deep personal loss they feel for a friend and colleague.
From the younger generation, Kartik Aaryan credited Patekar as a massive inspiration, citing his unforgettable one-liners like “Control Uday, control” as a staple of his upbringing. Hrithik Roshan echoed these sentiments, calling Patekar’s filmography a masterclass in acting. Manoj Bajpayee highlighted the hope Patekar gave to struggling outsiders in Mumbai, while Suniel Shetty paid tribute to his grounded nature. The loss was also felt deeply in the South, with icons like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, and Kamal Haasan honoring not just his cinematic genius, but his significant humanitarian work, particularly his long-standing commitment to supporting farmers and his service during the Kargil War.
