The Indian film industry is in mourning following the passing of legendary actor Nana Patekar, who died at the age of 75 on Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence. The veteran actor was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where medical teams fought to revive him for 45 minutes, but he unfortunately could not be saved. In recognition of his monumental contribution to Indian cinema, the government has announced that he will be accorded a state funeral.
Shah Rukh Khan took to social media to share a moving tribute, posting an old photograph alongside the late icon. Remembering him as a mentor, teacher, and friend, the superstar recalled their first meeting, where a nervous SRK began fiddling with his hair. Nana, known for his blunt honesty, immediately slapped his hand away and told him, “hero ki tarah baal mat bana, tu actor hai.” This piece of advice became a guiding principle for Shah Rukh, who admitted that Nana never told people what they wanted to hear, but rather what they needed to hear.
Describing Nana’s unique way of showing affection, SRK wrote that the veteran would often start with a shout or an insult, only for the recipient to realize they were being hugged by the third or fourth remark. Beyond his craft, the late actor was also a fierce carrom player who took great joy in beating everyone around him. Shah Rukh expressed his deep regret that they ran out of time for more tea, arguments, and games, but promised to carry the lesson, “hero banne ke chakar mein actor mat khona,” in his heart forever. Signing off, the superstar hailed him as a masterful actor and an unbeatable champion, praying for his soul to rest in peace.
