The Indian film industry is in a state of shock following the sudden demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who passed away on the morning of October 8 due to a severe cardiac arrest. Reports indicate that the actor had reached out to a friend at 2:30 am expressing discomfort, leading to his friend arriving at his residence by 4 am. Despite medical teams at Manipal Hospital attempting to revive him for 45 minutes, the beloved star could not be saved. Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at the hospital, confirmed the heartbreaking news.

Fellow actors have been quick to pay their respects to the powerhouse performer. Rajpal Yadav expressed deep sorrow, sharing that he always envisioned Patekar continuing his craft well into his 90s or 100s. “Wherever Nana Bhai is, I pray that he finds peace and happiness. I wish this news had been untrue; it is truly difficult to believe that he is gone,” Yadav stated. Veteran actor Raza Murad also shared emotional tributes, highlighting Patekar’s immense, quiet generosity. Murad recalled how the star would often donate nearly 90 percent of his film earnings to charity, adopting villages and supporting farmers without ever seeking public recognition.

Nana Patekar leaves behind a monumental legacy that spanned both Hindi and Marathi cinema. Starting his journey with the 1978 film ‘Gaman,’ he went on to deliver iconic performances in cult classics like ‘Parinda,’ ‘Prahar,’ ‘Krantiveer,’ ‘Tiranga,’ and ‘Ab Tak Chhappan.’ His portrayal in the Marathi drama ‘Natsamrat’ remains a masterclass in acting that cemented his legendary status. Even in his later years, he remained active in the industry, with recent appearances in ‘Housefull 5’ and Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘O’Romeo.’ His unique intensity and unparalleled contribution to the arts have left a void that the industry will find impossible to fill.
