Mumbai’s security agencies are on high alert after a threatening email sent to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde warned of potential bomb attacks targeting high-profile figures and key locations across the city. The email, sent on October 23, 2026, by an individual identifying as “Smith Johnson,” bore the subject line “Mumbai Bombay Bolega Khalistan Zindabad” and contained a series of alarming violent threats. Authorities have confirmed that while the email was sent to the Mayor’s office, it specifically mentioned Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh as targets.
The communication detailed a timeline of planned attacks, threatening to bomb Amitabh Bachchan’s Juhu residence, ‘Jalsa,’ at some point between October 31 and November 27, 2026. Additionally, the email threatened the upcoming Diljit Dosanjh concert scheduled for November 27 at the Mahalakshmi Racecourse. A separate threat was issued against an unspecified school, warning of a grenade attack on October 31. The sender also claimed to have planned an explosion at the Mayor’s office on October 23, though this threat did not materialize.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Kalwania confirmed that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received the message, prompting an immediate and comprehensive investigation. Security teams conducted thorough searches of the Mayor’s office and other locations mentioned in the email, ultimately confirming that no suspicious items were found. Although Amitabh Bachchan did not receive the threat directly, his inclusion in the message has caused significant concern. Authorities are currently working to trace the source of the email while maintaining a high alert across the city. This security scare adds to a growing list of industry concerns, following a recent shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff’s car.
