Kannada cinema is pushing the boundaries of the sci-fi genre with the announcement of its latest project, Lambodhar 2.0. In a groundbreaking move for Indian cinema, the film features a real humanoid robot named Jia in a lead role, marking a significant departure from traditional CGI-heavy performances. Developed by Bengaluru-based Machani Robotics, Jia is not an actor in a suit or a digital effect; she is a functional robot stepping directly onto the big screen to portray a character in this high-concept thriller.
Adding to the excitement, the film marks the Kannada debut of Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor. The stellar ensemble cast also includes Anil Shetty, Saachi Bindra, Mac D’Souza, and Meghana Gaonkar. Produced by Anil Shetty and Mass Productions, the project is helmed by director Simple Suni, who recently wrapped up filming after production kicked off in January. The director took to Instagram to introduce Jia to the world, emphasizing that she is the genuine article rather than a cinematic illusion.
Billed as an AI-driven social thriller, Lambodhar 2.0 dives deep into the chaotic reality of Gen Z life in the age of social media. The narrative explores contemporary themes surrounding artificial intelligence and the rapidly evolving digital ecosystem that defines today’s connected generation. While the makers have shared a compelling glimpse of the robot in action, they have yet to announce an official release date for the film. Audiences are eagerly waiting to see how this fusion of technology and storytelling plays out when the movie finally hits theaters.
