Vidyut Jammwal is officially ready to take Hollywood by storm. The action star is set to make his international debut as the iconic gaming character Dhalsim in the upcoming blockbuster Street Fighter. During a recent event hosted by Paramount Pictures India in Mumbai, the actor shared a special featurette that offered a first look at his transformation into the legendary fighter. For Vidyut, this role feels like destiny, as he credits his lifelong commitment to martial arts for preparing him for the challenge. Having trained in the ancient Indian martial art of Kalaripayattu since the age of three, he revealed that his deep-rooted discipline allowed him to resonate with Dhalsim on a spiritual and physical level.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film is a high-octane adaptation of the beloved video game franchise. The plot is set in 1993 and follows estranged fighters Ryu, played by Andrew Koji, and Ken Masters, portrayed by Noah Centineo, as they are drawn back into combat by the mysterious Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang. As they prepare for the World Warrior Tournament, they uncover a deadly conspiracy that forces them to confront their pasts. The cast is packed with global talent, including Jason Momoa as Blanka, along with Joe Anoai, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Eric Andre, Orville Peck, Olivier Richters, Hirooki Goto, Rayna Vallandingham, Alexander Volkanovski, and Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson.
The excitement surrounding this release has been building since the trailer dropped earlier this year, giving fans a glimpse of the intense choreography and star-studded ensemble. As the anticipation reaches a fever pitch, Indian audiences won’t have to wait much longer to see their favorite action hero on the big screen. Street Fighter is scheduled to hit theaters across India on October 16 and will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, ensuring that fans across the country can catch the action in their preferred language.
