The buzz around Shanaya Kapoor’s upcoming series Student of the Year: After Dark is heating up, and the makers have just dropped the first musical taste of the show. The new track, Jo Bhi Hona Hai Ho Jayega, was unveiled this Thursday, bringing a dark and experimental edge to the beloved franchise. Sung, written, and composed by the dynamic duo Chaar Diwaari and Samad Khan, the song perfectly captures the mysterious atmosphere of St. Teresa’s, where rivalries and secrets hide behind every corner.
Speaking on the creative process, Chaar Diwaari explained that the track thrives on unpredictability, blending genres like qawali and mid-tempo to create a sense of positive nihilism. Samad Khan added that they intentionally avoided a polished, predictable sound, opting instead for something that feels slightly off-kilter and raw. For them, the collaboration was all about pushing boundaries and experimenting with weird, unconventional sounds that somehow fit the show’s gritty narrative perfectly.
Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Reema Maya, the series is set to premiere on JioHotstar on November 13. Shanaya Kapoor, who takes on the challenging dual roles of Ayesha and Aditi, shared that the project explores a much darker side of the franchise than audiences are used to. With Ayesha’s mysterious death triggering the plot, the series promises to be a high-stakes murder mystery that dives deep into the toxic side of relentless competition.
Director Reema Maya promises that this iteration of the franchise is all about grit, angst, and heart, tailored specifically for today’s youth. By dissecting the psyches of ambitious and flawed characters, the series aims to show what happens when the need to win destroys friendships and lives. With a mix of competition and investigation, the show looks set to turn the familiar world of St. Teresa’s on its head.
