Veteran actor Jackie Shroff took a trip down memory lane today to honour the legendary Dev Anand on what would have been his 103rd birth anniversary. Taking to Instagram, the ‘Bhidu’ of Bollywood shared a series of nostalgic throwback pictures, including iconic black-and-white portraits of the evergreen star and a rare, cherished photograph of the two together. Expressing his deep reverence, Jackie wrote, “With Dev Saab’s blessings, I took my first steps into the world of cinema! Remembering him on his birth anniversary with immense love, respect, and gratitude!”
For those who don’t know, the connection between the two legends runs deep. Dev Anand famously discovered Jackie after spotting him on a hoarding advertisement during his modelling days. This led to Jackie’s debut in the 1982 film ‘Swami Dada.’ Their professional bond spanned decades, with the duo later collaborating on the films ‘Censor’ in 2001 and ‘Chargesheet’ in 2011. Notably, ‘Chargesheet’ holds a special place in history as it marked the final project directed by and starring the legendary filmmaker himself.
Born on September 26, 1923, Dev Anand remains one of the most charismatic icons to ever grace Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning more than 60 years, he delivered timeless classics such as ‘Baazi,’ ‘Taxi Driver,’ ‘CID,’ ‘Guide,’ ‘Jewel Thief,’ and ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna.’ Beyond his charm on screen, he was a visionary producer and filmmaker under his banner, Navketan Films. His monumental contribution to Indian cinema was rightfully recognised with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002.
