Brad Pitt is officially back in the boots of Cliff Booth, the cool-as-ice stuntman we all fell in love with in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 hit Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Netflix just dropped the trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, giving fans a long-awaited look at the character that earned Pitt an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. This time around, Tarantino takes the reins as the screenwriter, while the legendary David Fincher steps into the director’s chair. This project marks a massive reunion for the actor and director, who haven’t teamed up since 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, building on their iconic history with Se7en and Fight Club.
Set in 1977, the film picks up eight years after the original story. Los Angeles has changed, and the industry doesn’t quite need a hippie-slaying stuntman the way it used to, but Hollywood’s dark side remains as messy as ever. When he isn’t working as a bartender or a projectionist, Cliff is back to his old ways as a fixer for the city’s elite. The plot kicks off when he receives a mysterious call from talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, regarding her client, TV megastar Charlie Peters, portrayed by Scott Caan. The story quickly spirals into a gritty crime drama as Cliff gets tangled up with Peters’ wife, Toni (Carla Gugino), and former pro-footballer-turned-actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).
Things get even more complicated with the introduction of the Verdusco brothers, played by Matt Groove and JB Tadena, who bring a criminal element to the narrative. The official synopsis teases a transition from the fairytale vibes of the first film into a full-blown cocktail of violence, ambition, and desire. While the movie references Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Rick Dalton, fans should note that DiCaprio is not involved in this production. The cast is rounded out by Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.
For those eager to catch the action, the film will have an exclusive two-week theatrical run in IMAX starting November 25, before it makes its global debut on Netflix on December 23. Before then, you can catch Pitt in his upcoming film Heart of the Beast, which hits theaters on September 25. As Pitt continues his busy streak with projects like a new World War Z movie, this collaboration with Fincher and Tarantino is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated streaming events of the year.
