Bollywood grapples with rising security threats after Tiger Shroff shooting incident

The Indian film industry is currently on high alert following a chilling targeted attack on action star Tiger Shroff.

The Indian film industry is currently on high alert following a chilling targeted attack on action star Tiger Shroff. On October 18, 2026, the actor was leaving a football club in Mumbai’s Juhu area when three assailants fired five rounds at his vehicle. While Tiger sustained gunpowder burns to his right hand, his driver and a bystander also suffered injuries during the ambush. Mumbai Police acted swiftly, arresting three suspects, including Rehan Rahisuddin and a man identified as Hritik, on October 19 aboard the Pune-Jaipur Superfast Express in Kota, Rajasthan.

Investigations have unearthed a disturbing link to organized crime, with police revealing that Hritik served as a ‘sleeper operative’ for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to Kota SP Tejaswani Gautam, the suspects had been conducting surveillance on celebrities for over a year to facilitate extortion, lured by financial incentives and promises of relocation abroad. It is alleged that Rehan Rahisuddin received 37,000 rupees as part of the criminal conspiracy. In the wake of this violence, the Maharashtra government has stepped in, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis promising a thorough investigation and vowing that no perpetrators will escape justice.

The security situation further deteriorated on October 23 when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation received emails threatening to bomb Amitabh Bachchan’s residence, ‘Jalsa,’ and the venue of a highly anticipated concert by Diljit Dosanjh. Although extensive security sweeps at both locations turned up nothing suspicious, the threat level remains high. Adding to the tension, the Delhi Police officially denied permission for Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing serious security concerns and festive period logistics.

In response to these mounting dangers, Mumbai Police have significantly bolstered the security details for several high-profile figures, including Salman Khan, Rohit Shetty, and Aamir Khan, by deploying additional personnel and patrol units. The string of events has triggered widespread outrage and anxiety across the industry. Prominent voices, including actor Vidyut Jammwal and filmmaker Rahul Dholakia, have taken to public platforms to question the current state of law enforcement and the effectiveness of existing protection arrangements for those in the spotlight.
