Bollywood visionaries Anurag Kashyap and Vasan Bala have joined forces to present a gripping new short film titled Aakhri Ride. This atmospheric thriller is set to make its global debut on Halloween, October 31, exclusively on the YouTube channel Oh Short Flips, which is curated by Kashyap himself. The project marks the directorial debut of Vijesh Rajan and Yashoda Parthasarthy, with a production team that includes Ranjan Singh, Vishesh Agrawal, and Rajan EPK alongside Kashyap.
The film boasts a stellar cast, featuring Panchayat fame Chandan Roy and Faisal Malik alongside Kennedy actor Aamir Dalvi. The narrative follows a Mumbai ride-share driver who finds himself pushed to his absolute limit during one chilling, high-stakes night. According to the directors, the concept was born from their own observations during late-night cab journeys across Mumbai, where they noticed the invisible social divide between passengers and drivers. They aimed to weave this tension into a story that blends horror and humor, questioning what happens when a person is so preoccupied with their own troubles that they fail to see the reality around them.
Anurag Kashyap, who has a long-standing professional history with the directors since his Gangs of Wasseypur days, expressed his full support for their unique visual storytelling. Vasan Bala echoed this sentiment, describing the short as a sharp and quirky project with a beating heart that he felt compelled to back immediately. Backed by Navaras Pictures in association with Plexus Motion Pictures and Flip Films, the film has already garnered significant international acclaim, completing a successful festival run that includes selections at major genre hubs and Oscar and BAFTA-qualifying platforms.
