The streets of Juhu turned into a sea of celebration this Sunday as Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan stepped out to mark his 84th birthday. Continuing his cherished tradition of Sunday darshan, the legendary actor appeared outside his residence, Jalsa, to greet the massive crowd of admirers who had gathered since the early hours. Dressed in a sophisticated dark maroon kurta paired with an intricately detailed Kashmiri Kani pashmina shawl, the Shahenshah of Bollywood looked every bit the icon as he acknowledged the love from fans who had traveled from across the country to catch a glimpse of him.
The atmosphere outside Jalsa was electric, with fans brandishing long banners and wearing custom T-shirts featuring the star’s famous character monograms. For over four decades, this Sunday ritual has served as a bridge between the superstar and his audience, but the energy was undeniably amplified by the birthday festivities. Whether they were long-time followers or younger admirers, the crowd celebrated the man who has defined the landscape of Indian cinema for more than fifty years.
Born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, Bachchan’s journey from a young actor to a global icon is the stuff of legend. Since his breakout role as the ‘Angry Young Man’ in the 1973 classic Zanjeer, he has consistently redefined versatility through masterpieces like Black and Paa. Beyond the silver screen, his transition to television with the iconic quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000 solidified his place in every Indian household. With four National Film Awards and a shelf full of prestigious honours including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, the 84-year-old remains the undisputed heartbeat of Bollywood.
