Acclaimed filmmakers Abhishek Chaubey and Navdeep Singh are joining forces to present the highly anticipated short film Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot. The film is set for a global premiere on September 24 at midnight via Oh Short Flips, the curated YouTube channel spearheaded by Anurag Kashyap. Known for his gritty work on Udta Punjab and Sonchiriya, Chaubey expressed his admiration for the film’s modern narrative, describing it as both enjoyable and deeply disturbing. Meanwhile, Navdeep Singh, the creative mind behind NH10, lauded the short for its sharp, observational storytelling that feels incredibly relevant to the current socio-political climate.
Written and directed by Mumbai-based filmmaker Shivam Shankar, the film explores how individual grievances can spiral into a broader commentary on society and systemic frustration. The story centers on a heartbroken brass band musician who vents his anger on a public bathroom wall, an act that snowballs as strangers add their own political and social frustrations to the space. As the bathroom walls become covered in collective complaints, the physical decay of the setting goes completely ignored until government officials finally intervene. The film features a talented ensemble cast including Vandana Joshi, Prasanna Bisht, Apeksha Iyer, Naseem Mughal, and Rishi Solanki.
Before its online debut, Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot enjoyed an impressive run on the international festival circuit. It has screened at prestigious events including the International Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, IFFSA Toronto, and the Tokyo International Short Film Festival. The project has also racked up significant accolades, such as Best Indian Short Film at the Yellowstone International Film Festival and Best Editing in Tokyo. Produced by Ranjan Singh, RG, and Shivam Shankar, the short marks the third major release on the Oh Short Flips platform, following previous projects presented by industry stalwarts like Vikramaditya Motwane and Imtiaz Ali.
