Comedian and actor Vir Das has once again put India on the global map, securing his third International Emmy nomination for his Netflix stand-up special, Vir Das: Fool Volume. This latest achievement cements his status as the first Indian performer to receive three nominations from the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Taking to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, a humble Das shared the news with his followers, writing, “Ummmmm. An International Emmy Nomination. Our third for India. This fool thanks you.”
The recognition has sparked a wave of joy across the industry, with celebrities like Zoya Akhtar, Bhumi Pednekar, and Sheeba Chadha leading the congratulatory messages. His journey with the Emmys began in 2021 with his special Vir Das: For India, followed by his historic 2023 win for Vir Das: Landing, which made him the first Indian comedian to bring home the prestigious trophy. Remarkably, all three of his nominations have been for his consistently acclaimed work on Netflix.
What makes Fool Volume particularly special is its unconventional origin story. Filmed across Mumbai, London, and New York, the project was born out of a moment of vulnerability when Das lost his voice shortly before filming. Forced to rewrite the material in silence and perform without the luxury of extensive rehearsals, the comedian turned a physical struggle into a deeply personal creative triumph. Reflecting on the nomination, Das noted the irony of receiving such high honors for a show born out of silence, adding that he is incredibly grateful for the support of his team and the global audience that continues to embrace his unique brand of comedy.
