The Indian film fraternity is mourning the loss of veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, who passed away on Thursday after a battle with cancer. The actor had been receiving treatment at Nanavati Hospital following health complications, but his condition unfortunately deteriorated despite medical intervention. News of his passing has left his peers and fans in shock, with many remembering him as a versatile talent who graced the screen for over three decades.
Sanjay Mishra, who shared screen space with Khan in the blockbuster comedy Welcome, expressed deep grief while reflecting on their bond. Mishra shared that Khan was much more than just a co-star to him, acting as a supportive guardian during various phases of his career. According to Mishra, whenever he faced professional dilemmas, he would turn to Khan for advice. The actor also lamented that despite his immense contribution to cinema, Khan never truly received the recognition and credit he deserved throughout his journey in the industry.
Mushtaq Khan made his debut in the 1980 film Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai and went on to deliver memorable performances in iconic movies like Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. He is perhaps best remembered by modern audiences for his hilarious role in Welcome, where his delivery of the legendary dialogue, “Meri ek taang nakli hai, main hockey ka bahut bada player hoon,” became a pop culture phenomenon. Remembering their time on set, Mishra fondly recalled how Khan took the time to show him around Dubai during the film’s shoot, describing him as both a brilliant actor and a wonderful human being. Khan’s funeral is scheduled to be held on Friday.
