Richa Chadha gears up to explore the hidden stories of Mumbai in her new non-fiction series

Richa Chadha is trading the silver screen for a fresh creative challenge with her upcoming non-fiction series, Musafiri.

Richa Chadha is trading the silver screen for a fresh creative challenge with her upcoming non-fiction series, Musafiri. Marking her debut as a host, writer, and producer on YouTube, the eight-episode show promises to peel back the layers of Mumbai, moving far beyond the city’s usual tourist hotspots. The official trailer has just dropped, setting the stage for a deep dive into the heart of the metropolis through the eyes of its local residents, historians, and cultural experts.

The inspiration for this project struck the actor following her journey into motherhood. Richa shared that the life-changing experience reignited a sense of curiosity, prompting her to view the city she has called home for years with a newfound perspective. Reflecting on her transition from a History Honours student to a storyteller, she noted that the series is a heartfelt attempt to explore the familiar with fresh eyes. Described as an exploration of “People, Places and Pyaar,” the show aims to answer the lingering question of what she truly owes to the city that shaped her career.

Musafiri will premiere on September 25 via Phull Stop, the YouTube channel co-owned by Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, with new episodes scheduled to drop every Friday. This project marks a significant shift for the duo’s production house, Pushing Buttons Studios, as they venture into the non-fiction space for the first time. The studio has already gained international acclaim for their feature film Girls Will Be Girls, which earned recognition at the Sundance Film Festival and a John Cassavetes Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. With this new venture, the team is looking to bring that same narrative depth to their digital audience.
