The Hindi film industry is in mourning following the passing of Krishna Mukerji, the mother of acclaimed actress Rani Mukerji. Mrs. Mukerji, who was 75 years old, passed away on Tuesday afternoon. The news was confirmed through an official statement from the family, which expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers while requesting privacy as they navigate this difficult period of grief.
Following the news, several prominent members of the film fraternity gathered at Mumbai’s Pawan Hans Crematorium to pay their final respects and stand by the Mukerji family. Among those spotted arriving at the crematorium were Alia Bhatt, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, Anil Kapoor, and Apoorva Mehta. Director Ayan Mukerji was also present to offer his condolences during the solemn occasion.
Krishna Mukerji was a respected figure within the film community, having been married to the late filmmaker Ram Mukerjee, the co-founder of the iconic Filmalaya Studios, who passed away in 2017. Beyond her role as a matriarch to Rani and her brother, producer Raja Mukerji, Krishna Mukerji also shared a creative connection with the industry as a playback singer. She is remembered for her contribution to the 1982 film Teesri Aankh, where she lent her voice to the track ‘Idd Ke Din Gale Mil Le Raja’.
