Addressing the perceived gaps in her filmography, the actor clarified that her absence from the screen wasn’t a calculated career strategy but a result of international commitments. She explained that after the whirlwind success of The Lunchbox, she dove straight into filming for the hit series Homeland, which kept her occupied for months, followed by a year-long shoot for Airlift. Nimrat emphasized that she deliberately held out for better scripts, refusing to dilute the impact of her performance in The Lunchbox by repeating the same trope in lesser projects.
Reflecting on her immersive preparation for the role, Nimrat shared how she chose to abandon vanity to capture Ila’s quiet isolation. She gained weight, avoided makeup, and worked closely with the art director to ensure her kitchen space felt lived-in and authentic. The actor also noted the irony of industry perceptions, recalling that she was previously told she looked too Western for domestic roles, only for the narrative to flip entirely after her performance alongside the late Irrfan Khan. Today, Nimrat remains vigilant, ensuring that if a script feels like it is drifting into the familiar territory of a trapped housewife, she politely declines.
