Dr. Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital confirmed that the legendary actor suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence. Despite 45 minutes of CPR efforts, the actor could not be revived, leaving a void that will be felt for generations to come.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, taking to X to honor the late star. Describing Patekar as an actor of unmatched intensity and individuality, the PM praised his immense contributions to both Hindi and Marathi cinema. He highlighted how Patekar’s versatility and his willingness to voice frank, forthright opinions earned him deep admiration from fans and peers alike. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid his respects, calling the demise an irreplaceable loss to the world of art and acknowledging Patekar’s significant commitment to social causes.

Political leaders including Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Naveen Patnaik also expressed their grief, remembering the actor for his powerful screen presence and iconic dialogue delivery. Dhami noted how Patekar carved a distinct identity through his vibrant performances, while Patnaik recalled the ease with which the actor portrayed complex characters, cementing his legacy in Indian cinema.

Nana Patekar’s career, which spanned over four decades, began with his 1978 debut in Gaman. He became a household name through power-packed performances in critically acclaimed films like Parinda, Krantiveer, Tiranga, and the gritty crime drama Ab Tak Chhappan. Even in his later years, the actor remained active in the industry, with recent projects including a role in Housefull 5, a performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo, and a cameo in the upcoming film Subedar. His sudden departure marks the end of an era for Indian cinema.
