Mika Singh has come out swinging in defense of his elder brother, Daler Mehndi, after the veteran singer faced intense public scrutiny over a recent performance. During the Maa Kunjapuri Mela in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal publicly questioned Mehndi’s conduct, alleging that the singer appeared disoriented on stage and was relying on lip-syncing rather than live vocals. Uniyal, who expressed his frustration during the event, claimed that the singer failed to do justice to his art despite being paid a significant fee.
Taking to Instagram to address the controversy, Mika Singh slammed the spread of unverified claims, urging the media to exercise caution before damaging an artist’s reputation. Mika firmly refuted the allegations that his brother was intoxicated, stating clearly that Daler Mehndi does not consume alcohol. He further revealed that the veteran singer has been battling health issues for the past two years and recently underwent a major operation, yet continues to perform for his fans despite his ongoing recovery.
Highlighting a double standard in how Indian artists are treated compared to international acts, Mika questioned whether anyone would dare challenge a band like Coldplay in such a public manner. He also pointed out that using backing tracks is a common practice among performers today, yet his brother was singled out unfairly. The singer’s defense has garnered significant support from the industry, with celebrities like Suniel Shetty, Kapil Sharma, Shaan, and Harshdeep Kaur showing their solidarity in the comments section. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand folk singer Pritam Bhartwan noted that he could not personally confirm the allegations regarding alcohol consumption, leaving the focus of the debate on the singer’s health and professional conduct.
