Kunal Kemmu is back in the director’s chair with his latest comedy-drama Vibe, and the early box office reports suggest he has struck a chord with the audience. Starring Preity Zinta in a pivotal role, the film managed to pull viewers to the theatres for its Friday release. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie minted Rs 2.25 crore on its opening day. This performance marks a strong start for the director, as the figure surpasses the opening day collection of his directorial debut, Madgaon Express, which earned Rs 1.63 crore. To keep the momentum going, the makers have introduced a half-price ticket offer running from Friday through Sunday.
The casting of Preity Zinta has been a major talking point for the film. During the trailer launch, Kunal Kemmu shared that he had been a fan of the actress for years and originally toyed with the idea of her playing a meta version of herself as an undercover agent. While he eventually moved away from that script direction, he settled on her for the role because he wanted to surprise the audience with an action-oriented performance they hadn’t seen from her before. Kemmu admitted that the biggest hurdle was simply getting her to say yes, a challenge he is clearly happy he overcame.
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Vibe follows the chaotic journey of two ordinary childhood best friends who find themselves caught in the middle of a national terrorist conspiracy. Beyond the lead pair, the film features an ensemble cast including Sparsh Shrivastava, Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma, Dinesh Lal Yadav, Sharmila Tagore, and Uorfi Javed. With a decent opening and attractive ticket pricing for the weekend, all eyes are now on whether the film can sustain its pace in the coming days.
