Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has officially made history by becoming the first Indian to host The Earthshot Prize Awards Night. The prestigious environmental event, founded by HRH Prince William, is set to hold its upcoming edition in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone for both the global initiative and the Indian film fraternity. Ahead of the grand ceremony, Karan Johar recently met with Prince William to discuss the vision behind the prize, which aims to champion innovative solutions for restoring and protecting the planet.
Expressing his excitement about the role, Karan Johar shared that hosting the event in his home city of Mumbai is a moment of immense pride. He noted that while cinema is about imagining new worlds, the innovators celebrated by Earthshot are actively showing us how to build a better one. Prince William also weighed in on the partnership, emphasizing that the finalists provide him with renewed optimism and that he looks forward to celebrating their impactful stories with the world this November.
The upcoming programme will span two days, featuring the Earthshot Prize Summit, which aims to connect global leaders, innovators, and businesses to accelerate environmental change. The festivities will culminate in the sixth annual awards ceremony on 17 November 2026. During the event, 15 finalists will be honored, and five winners will be revealed. Each of these winners will be awarded £1 million to help scale their environmental solutions and expand their global impact.
