Jimmy Shergill and Divya Dutta starrer Tum Rahe Na Tum heads to IFFSA Toronto for world premiere

Bollywood is hitting the global stage once again as the psychological family drama Tum Rahe Na Tum gears up for its world premiere.

Bollywood is hitting the global stage once again as the psychological family drama Tum Rahe Na Tum gears up for its world premiere. Starring the powerhouse duo of Jimmy Shergill and Divya Dutta, the film is set to screen at the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) in Toronto on October 10. The Gala Premiere will take place at the Cineplex Cinemas Courtney Park in Mississauga, marking a significant milestone for the project. The announcement was officially shared by the festival organizers on their Instagram handle, building anticipation for the film’s international debut.

Directed by Prem Prakash Modi, the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Tanishka Tiwari, Harsh Chhaya, Zarina Wahab, and Rajesh Jais. Produced by Vinni Chawla, Vrinda Chawla, and Sonu Katyal under the Fanatically Filmi Pvt. Ltd. banner, the movie features a screenplay by Rakesh Kumar Tripathi, with Vikramjit Roy and Dipankar ‘Jojo’ Chaki serving as executive producers. The film is a creative adaptation of Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s classic play The Father, cleverly reimagined to fit the complexities of a modern Indian household.

The narrative unfolds in a scenic hill town in Uttarakhand, centering on a husband and wife locked in a fierce battle over their daughter’s future. As their conflict escalates, the story dives deep into themes of power, inheritance, and parental expectations, while questioning how patriarchy and past emotional wounds can dismantle a marriage. Rather than painting a simple picture of right versus wrong, the film focuses on two deeply flawed characters struggling for identity and control.

Reflecting on the upcoming premiere, Jimmy Shergill expressed his excitement about the film’s international journey, noting that while the story is rooted in an Indian family, the emotions remain universal. Director Prem Prakash Modi echoed this sentiment, marveling at how a century-old story maintains its relevance today. Divya Dutta added that she hopes the film’s intimate portrayal of love and complicated family dynamics will resonate with audiences far beyond India, allowing viewers globally to find pieces of their own lives within the characters on screen.
