Hollywood actor Guillermo Diaz is opening up about a truly unique souvenir he collected during his early days in the industry. While appearing on the McBride Rewind podcast with Josh McBride, the 51-year-old actor reminisced about his time working on the 1996 comedy-thriller High School High. Among his most cherished memories from the set is a bold gift he received from the late, legendary actress Louise Fletcher, who was famously known for her chilling, Oscar-winning turn as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
According to Diaz, Fletcher surprised him with a candid, autographed black-and-white photograph of herself. The image captured the actress topless, glancing over her shoulder while wearing only her iconic nurse hat from her most famous role. Diaz admitted he was initially caught off guard by the gesture, but the photo quickly became one of his most prized possessions. He still holds onto the memorabilia today, honoring the memory of Fletcher, who passed away in September 2022.
Reflecting on the experience, Diaz shared that working alongside comedy veterans like Jon Lovitz and a powerhouse talent like Fletcher was a highlight of his career. High School High, which followed a teacher navigating an inner-city school, also featured a star-studded cast including Tia Carrere, Mekhi Phifer, and Malinda Williams. For Diaz, the project was part of a formative era that preceded his breakout role in the cult classic Half Baked just two years later.
Since those early days, Diaz has built a prolific career in Hollywood, becoming a familiar face on television through hit shows like Scandal, Weeds, Law & Order, and Broad City. While he has played a wide variety of roles, the memory of his interaction with Fletcher remains a standout anecdote from his journey in the film industry.
