In a move that has earned him plenty of praise from industry insiders, National Film Award winner Dhanush has officially pushed back the release of his highly anticipated film, OM: Chapter 1. Originally scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, the film has been pulled from its slot to ensure it does not go head-to-head with some of the biggest names in South Indian cinema. Dhanush took to his X handle to share a heartfelt note explaining the decision, citing mutual respect as the primary driver behind the move.
The primary reason for the delay is the proximity to the release of Rajinikanth’s upcoming sequel, Jailer 2. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and featuring Vidya Balan, the superstar’s film is set to premiere on October 15. Dhanush expressed his deep admiration for the veteran actor, stating that out of respect for the man he has worshipped for years, it was only right to step aside. He emphasized that in an industry where scheduling conflicts are common, making space for a legend like Rajinikanth was a simple choice.
Beyond the clash with Rajinikanth, Dhanush also confirmed that OM: Chapter 1 will not be arriving during the Diwali window. This decision was made to avoid competing with Suriya’s upcoming project, which is scheduled for a November 6 release. Dhanush noted that since the team behind Suriya’s film had already locked their date, it was only fair to step back to ensure both films have the breathing room they deserve. He highlighted that big-budget films should operate with mutual understanding to support the overall welfare of the industry.
Directed by Rajkumar Perisamy, OM: Chapter 1 remains one of the most talked-about projects, especially with the legendary Mammootty also featuring in a prominent role. Meanwhile, Suriya’s upcoming film, directed by Jithu Madhavan, sees the star stepping into the shoes of a cop alongside a cast that includes Nazriya Nazim, Naslen, Anandraj, Lal, and Raj Priyan. While fans will have to wait a little longer to see Dhanush on screen, the actor has promised to announce the new release date for his film in the very near future.
