Sunny Deol fans can breathe a sigh of relief as his upcoming actioner, Surya: Ant Se Arambh Tak, has cleared a major legal hurdle. The Delhi High Court recently refused to grant an emergency stay on the film’s release, which was sought by a group of medical professionals. The petitioners had moved the court alleging that the film’s teaser and trailer depict doctors in a derogatory and offensive light, demanding immediate intervention to halt the movie’s theatrical run.
On November 4, a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Nitin Vasudeva Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma heard the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) but ultimately decided against entertaining the request. The court clarified that because a separate petition addressing the exact same grievances is already being heard by a single-judge bench, there is no legal requirement to run parallel proceedings on the matter. As a result, the court declined to issue any injunction, effectively greenlighting the film’s release schedule for now.
While this specific attempt to block the project failed, the legal battle is far from over. The initial petition filed by the group of doctors remains active and is currently pending before the court. The proceedings for that case are yet to reach a final conclusion, meaning the film may still face further scrutiny as the judicial process continues. For now, however, the makers of Surya can proceed with their plans as the court has opted not to interfere with the release.
