Courteney Cox shares why she refused to give up on her directorial project Evil Genius

Courteney Cox is proving that her commitment to long-term projects goes far beyond her iconic decade-long run on Friends or her seven-film tenure in the Scream franchise.

Courteney Cox is proving that her commitment to long-term projects goes far beyond her iconic decade-long run on Friends or her seven-film tenure in the Scream franchise. In a recent candid interview, the 62-year-old actor opened up about her meticulous creative process, admitting that she considers herself quite “exhausting” because of how deeply she cares about every detail of her work. For Cox, it is simple: if she loves a project, she wants it to last.

This dedication is best exemplified by her latest directorial venture, Evil Genius, a dark comedy thriller she spent eight years bringing to life. Based on the infamous 2003 “pizza bomber” case and written by Courtenay Miles, the film stars Patricia Arquette and David Harbour. The road to production was anything but smooth, as Cox navigated a global lockdown and two separate industry strikes. Despite the endless obstacles, the actor remained steadfast, noting that she “fought and fought” because she felt a personal necessity to make the film a reality.

The project also holds a special place in her heart for family reasons, as her 22-year-old daughter, Coco, makes a guest appearance in the film. Cox, who shares Coco with ex-husband David Arquette, spoke highly of her daughter’s acting skills, noting that Coco has trained at the William Esper Studio and takes her craft very seriously. While this role is small, Cox mentioned she is eager to direct her daughter in a more substantial capacity in the future. Beyond her filmmaking pursuits, the star continues to balance her creative career with the management of Homecourt, the luxury homecare and fragrance brand she launched in 2022.
