The wait is finally over for fans of high-stakes thrills and dark comedy. Netflix has dropped the trailer for Sacrifice, a genre-bending film that brings together Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy in a truly unconventional scenario. The plot follows Evans as a fading movie star whose night at an environmental gala takes a sharp turn when he and two other guests are abducted. The kidnappers, led by the intense Joan played by Taylor-Joy, are a group of radicals convinced that a volcanic eruption is imminent and that human sacrifice is the only way to save the planet.
In a chilling yet darkly funny twist, Taylor-Joy’s character makes her intentions clear to her hostages, stating, “The mountain of fire is famished, so we must offer you into its magma.” The film, directed by Romain Gavras of Athena fame, promises a bizarre journey as the captives are taken toward a volcano. The project features a massive ensemble cast including Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, John Malkovich, Charli XCX, and Salma Hayek, ensuring plenty of star power to match the unique premise.
Behind the scenes, Gavras co-wrote the script alongside Succession writer Will Arbery. The film is a collaborative production involving a large team of producers, including Gavras himself. After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, Netflix secured the domestic rights this past May. Viewers can catch the action when Sacrifice begins streaming on Netflix starting October 16.
