The landscape of Indian cinema is witnessing a futuristic shift as the first poster for the upcoming horror film Jamlok has been officially unveiled. A collaborative venture between AI filmmaking company Koyal AI and production house Waveband Production, the project promises to push the boundaries of storytelling by blending cutting-edge technology with traditional filmmaking. The film is currently in development and is expected to reach completion within the next three months.
What sets Jamlok apart is its unique hybrid approach to production. Rather than relying solely on digital generation, the film will integrate Generative AI technology alongside live-action performances from real actors. This dual method aims to create a chilling, immersive experience that bridges the gap between machine-generated visuals and human-led dramatic performances.
The first look of the project was revealed at the Uncanny India festival, hosted at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. This event served as the Indian debut of Koyal’s renowned Uncanny Valley Fest, a global platform that has previously traveled to major hubs like San Francisco, Austin, and Pittsburgh. The festival brought together a diverse crowd of filmmakers, students, and tech professionals to explore the evolving role of AI in media.
During the festival, participants were challenged to create AI-powered content in just one day, covering categories ranging from music videos to advertising and short films. Out of the submissions, nine standout projects were selected for screening, highlighting the growing talent pool of Indian creators experimenting with AI. As Jamlok moves into its final production phase, it stands as a pioneer in the local industry’s transition toward AI-assisted cinematic storytelling.
